A Disturbing Flaw in Disney's Movie Beauty and the Beast
77
Explain this...
As a life long fan of Disney movies, I have seen each one. If you have children, chances are you have seen the Disney movies over and over and over.
The movie "Beauty and the Beast" tells a tale of a young woman who becomes the captive of a "Beast" who is actually a Prince under the spell of a witch whom he mistreated. As the movie progresses, the household items in the house describe the fact that under this same spell, they were turned to candelabras, clocks, and tea pots. This curse can only be broken for all if the Beast falls in love and another in turn falls in love with him. In the song "Be Our Guest" Lumiere the candelabra sings: "For ten years we've been rusting, needing so much more than dusting.." referring to the fact that they were transformed into household items ten years previously.
When you consider that the servants in the castle were transformed into furniture and household products 10 years prior, one must wonder about the conception and birth of Ms. Pott's (a ceramic tea pot) 6 year old son, "Chip" (the tea cup). Who is his father? How did this happen? How did Ms. Potts give birth to Chip? How did Chip get chipped?
Is this a major oversight by Disney or a ploy to keep viewers watching?

Lyrics: "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast
Lumiere: While Serving Belle's Dinner
"Life is so unnerving
For a servant who's not serving.
He's not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful...
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Ten years we've been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!

The El Diablo Hand Sign
In addition to inappropriate sexual messages inside of Disney's Beauty and The Beast, the movie is also criticized for the use of the "El Diablo Hand Sign" more than 5 times in the movie by various characters in the film.
This symbol, which has roots of being the secret Satanic hand gesture of the ancient Illuminati, is commonly known as the Devil's calling card. The gesture represents the horns of Satan and is used to pay homage to the Devil and distinguish Satanists to one another. It is an open invitation for Satan to enter a possess the beholder.
Coincidence or Sensastionalism?
Since Disney released their first animated movie "Snow White" in 1937, there has been great debate on whether or not the writers and animators attempted to create controversy in their films to entice viewers. "Snow White" is psychoanalysed as a sexual fantasy by showcasing a young girl held captive by seven males and later rescued by Prince Charming. Like Eve from the Bible, she eats the "forbidden fruit" which causes great peril. Coincidence?
From rumors of phallic symbols in classics like "The Little Mermaid", subliminal sexual messages in the Lion King, the conception and birth of a tea cup in Beauty and the Beast, the evidence suggests that perhaps Disney intentionally adds controversial items to their movies to create discussion and rake in viewers.
Disney has yet to publicly comment on this issue, however in 1999 the conglomerate recalled all versions of the "Rescuers" created in 1977 for an image that may have been accidentally inserted into the background.

Great observation! I will ask my wife about this. She is a fan of Disney movies, she believes she's one of the princesses.
Hahaha. Wow! You definitely caught something that I doubt anyone else has.
Maybe Mr. Potts broke during the deed, & that's why Chip is - well - Chip!?! I am kidding, of course.
Makes me wonder, though! You should post this as a question, and see if anyone has any insight!?!
;) ha ha ha! never thought about that! thanks for the laugh
The servants did not age while enchanted so the boy was six when it happened, and stayed six.
lol.it's a fantasy story. aren't we spposed to suspend belief? Entertaining hub ;-)
Haha!
I guess dishes gotta get a little dirty every once in a while....
I'm a bit out of touch with recent Disney but I get your point.
Ha, ha, This is something to ponder. Did they do it on purpose to vex the adults in the audience and so keep their attention? Or is it just one of those stupid mistakes like in the book I just read where the Hudson River flows up into the Adirondack Mountains. The sentence was so well written yet so ridiculous. I chuckled for some time over the river flowing up the mountain.
In the last movie I saw, one of the side characters is called two different names - I thought about rewinding when he was introduced to see what his real name was supposed to be, but I didn't bother. Also in the same movie, the guy takes off the label from the bottle of wine and writes something on the back. In the next scene, the bottle still has a label. Those types of mistakes do happen. I doubt they are intentional.
For Disney movies, I do think that some disgruntled or "funny" workers do add stuff to them to see how long it takes their boss to catch them.
Now I'm going to have to watch Beauty and the Beast so I can catch these things that I missed the first hundred thousand times around.
Hi, I have a theory, seeing it was teapot, maybe that was how she got 'up the spout'? (English speak for being in the family way!) lol!
Shallowness - that really isn't fair - they took a fairy tale and made it into a movie. It is the blame of the fairy tale author(s) that it is what it is. If they change it too much, they will be blamed for not being true to the story. I am glad http://hubpages.com/feed/#that they branched out to other more uplifting stories though.
A great fun hub Tammy, certainly a puzzle.
I remember watching the rescuers at the cinama, certainly didn't notice the image in the background.
Love Nell Rose's comment.
Dear tammy,
I received a disturbing hang-up call that Cinderella had 'fallen on her ash'... do you think someone was 'cranking my yank'?
Girlfriend, this was a 'stitch'! Voted UP & FAB, mar.
Fun hub. I’ve also always had my doubts about Mrs Potts and Chip. My daughter recently bought the DVD, so will watch it closely next time around.
Interesting that Beauty and the beast and Snow White are the 2 Disney films most criticised for shallowness. I thought Belle showed a lot more intelligence than Snow White - or the dwarves for that matter. I mean, guarding her after she’d died wasn’t the smartest move now was it?
Okay Tammy, You got me really thinking about this, and the only logical answer I can thing of, that would have the proper DNA to create a tea cup by Mrs. Potts would have to be Mr. Coffee!
after doing some research, Mr. Coffee has thermosyphons that carry water up from a reservoir as it reaches it boiling point in the lift tube....BANG! Mrs. Potts after a few days begins to look a little stouter in the spout region.....for you know it...........we have a little chip.
that is my story, I'm sticking with it.
Chris
I saw the link on Facebook for this. This is a fun subject for a hub. We all know where little cups come from, the same place where all cups are made... in a pottery. LOL. The Rescuers thing was a surprise I have the Video of this and never knew about that picture or the hand gestures.
Seeing as Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite movie... I can admit the time schedule is a bit off. But I do get frustrated when were in the theater and my boyfriend is criticizing it for the millionth time. The one thing I can't understand is how it can be criticized for shallowness. Belle doesn't fall for handsome Gaston because he has a bad personality. She does fall in love with the Beast who is, well, a beast. She falls in love with him before he changes because otherwise he wouldn't have changed at all. The fact that he's good looking is just a perk. Plus, the villagers admit she's beautiful but really want nothing to do with her because she's strange. Gaston and the villagers are really the only shallow ones. Cinderella = shallow. Even Ariel = shallow. But I'll be defending Belle to the death. (Just a joke... I'm not crazy).
This was too funny, and I can admire someone off-kilter enough to spot it!
Actually it is really quite simple about Chip. The servants in their household item form are enchanted and don't age. So Chip was 6 10 years ago, and has remained that age since then.
Wow, I've got to watch out for these things when I see the movie next. It never occurred to me that chip might have been born. Thought he was made in a porcelain factory. But then that wouldn't make sense with the story line. Voting this Up and Interesting.
I have to go with Nouveau Skeptic's theory on this one. Little tea cups don't grow up to become tea pots so little boys who are magically turned into tea cups don't grow up, either. Great hub!
Maybe he was six at the time of the spell. It didn't look like any one aged, from the time of spell until after spell. The prince looked the same, the servents, everything. Maybe aging didn't exist.
The better question was how did some one who looked so old (after enchantment she was gray haired and wrinkly) have a six year old?
Im not too sure about Chip's chippyness but there have been a lot of stories about Walt Disney (creator of Disney ) being a freemason and an illuminist . Most of these childrens movies contain many many hidden indications and taunts that the support the freemasons ideals and are not 'flaws' at all .If you are so inclined you should take a closer look at The Little Mermaid as well :)
I have also written a poem about a popular nursery rhyme and what is believed to be its interpretation :) . Its called the darkness unknown . Its another fact that at the very least changes thoughts of our childhood :0
It feels like every time I watch Beauty and the Beast (which is fairly frequently), I find another plot hole. I've never considered this one specifically, but I have noticed something similar. The curse is 10 years old, and it's already been mentioned that the Prince would have been 11 at the time, unless no one ages under the curse. But the Prince HAS to age, otherwise he would never reach his 21st year (as mentioned in the prologue). Additionally, when Belle is in the West Wing, she finds a portrait of the Prince as an ADULT human, which would have been impossible if he were cursed as an 11 year old.
About the hand signs: I've actually never noticed them before, and that surprises me. Time to watch the movie again. As a side note, that hand sign has a very specific meaning in Italy: "your spouse is being unfaithful." Probably a reference to the medieval "cuckold."

So funny! I never thought of that. Maybe she adopted . . . I would assume Disney figured its main viewing audience was too young to worry about it. I always kind of hoped at the end that Belle's father would hit it off with Mrs. Potts. :-)
