Bealtaine an ghaoth a bhí riamh ag do dhroim.
Whether you are Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Gaelic, or an American, Celtic music is probably a part of your ancient heritage. Derived from stories passed from generations, Celtic music is based in Folklore and Poetry sung for entertainment. There are many divisions of true "Celtic Music" outside of "commercial" music by such artists as the Celtic Women.
Six Celtic nationalities constitute all that is "Celtic". The Q-Celtic nationalities are the Irish, Scottish, and Manx peoples. The P-Celtic groups are the Cornish, Bretons, and Welsh peoples. The Gaelic (Irish and Scottish) branch and the Brythonic (Breton and Welsh) group differentiate by an extended range of Irish and Scottish melodies and the closed range of Breton and Welsh melodies (often reduced to a half-octave), and by the frequent use of the pure pentatonic scale in Gaelic music.

Sure enough, I'm not sure how I missed that! I missed Enya too. I feel silly now, but it was probably because your numbers skipped and I got confused! I'm going to have to listen to some Gaelic Storm, because I adore the soft tones and melodic beats.
My favorite Clannad CD is The Legend, which is the Robin Hood Soundtrack, though I have 3 of their greatest hits that include songs from The Last of the Mohicans soundrack.
Sorry for my silly confusion and I'll be listening to some of these groups. In fact, I'm going to put this as a favorite and start picking when I download some new CDs!
I love Loreena Mckenit or however u spell her name lol. I love her take on the highway man. She is truly one talented women. Voted up.
I actually did not know that she was Canadian, but she is still killed and her music is wonderful. Enya is also wonderful as well. Thank you for posting some of my links btw. I appreciate that.
I read your name for the first time in the comment section in a hub by Feenix. I came to check your writings and I am happy I did. This is a great article with a great list of songs.
Many years back while tracing some of my family tree, I listend to some of this music and I was hooked. I cannot explain how I fell when I listen to it or how I fell about it. Kind of like when we were younger and listened to Led Zeplin for the first time.
I saw in your article you like heavy metal as well. Check out a band called the Kildares, they are from the Dallas area in Texas and they are a Gaelic metal band, there older songs were more metal than now but I think you may like the sound.
Up and awesome across the board. Look forward to reading more
PS. went to a Celtic Woman concert, its a beautiful show to see live
What a great selection on Celtic music, I have to check funny for Drop Kick Murphy's they are a riot!
Your hub has reminded of some great music to listen to, thanks for the links!
Beautiful suggestions! I know what I'm listening to today. Thanks for sharing with us. Voted up and useful and awesome. Oh, and thanks so much for the link! You're too sweet. :)
....yes I love the Dropkick Murphys too along with the Pogues, the Chieftains and the Clancy Brothers - love this most definitive hub list - it's such a wow!!!!! and a true labor of love by you which will be posted to my Facebook page with awe and admiration -with a direct link back here - and talking about a small world with Kitty the dreamer earlier - I once sat beside the lovely Loreena McKinnett at a concert back in the early 90's at a Massey Hall gig in Toronto featuring the Michael Nyman Band (who did the score for the film The Piano) - I believe she is from Stratford, Ontario
lake erie time ontario canada 6:39pm you certainly know and love your music says epi-man the musicologist!
Tammy, I have no clue about celtic music except for Enya's name. Since I might be cluless with celtic but I know an outstanding hub when I see one and this is my favorite hub of the day! The details, links, pictures and information all flow together and you got my vote and share!!!
BTW..I'll move to Canada in a heartbeat but their winters are brutal, there are cool people in Orlando too, just saying!:)
Interesting. The only group I recognized was the Corrs. I like that group. I will be exploring the links you provided. In some ways Celtic culture is a whole new world to me.
Better than KU, that's impossible! My heart skips a beat just seeing his name!! :)
We are 30 minutes from Disney. Us youngens forced the older folk more South, they couldn't keep up with our partying ways! Haha!
MARVELOUS hub, and really enjoyed every bit of it. Fantastic videos. Celtic Music is so pure and beautiful. Voted UP and thank you!
vocalcoach~
Hi, this was great, I didn't realise who Loreena was but I have loads of cds of her music, I have a friend who downloads them for me! lol! I listen to them but never realised who sang them! one thing I would like to add is that most people don't realise that the South of England was mainly celtic as well, for example Bodecea our greatest Celtic queen, came from the south east of England, so most of the south down here is celtic. I love the music, I have it playing most nights, great stuff! cheers nell
I absolutely adore Celtic Music, Clannad is one of my all time favorites, and I believe that everybody loves Enya.
Thanks for sharing this informative hub.
Truly "I Will Find You" by Clannad is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard.
Thanks for sharing this list Tammyswallow, I really love and enjoy listening to Celtic music. I have about a third of the songs listed in your hub, and they are definitely excellent choices. This means I need to start looking for the other ones on your list. One of my favorites is "Song for Ireland," truly beautiful. Of course, there's also "Danny Boy," my husband's favorite who could play it over and over again. He would sing that to our son when he was an infant to put him back to sleep when he would wake up in the middle of the night.
i do enjoy celtic and celtic influenced music. There's a bar in Portland called Kell's that has celtic bands and, of course, celtic influenced punk groups like the dropkick murphys, flogging molly and the ballydowse are legit :-)
...really love this one Tammy - back for more - and of course just an excuse to see you .......lake erie time 8:01pm
The Ballydowse is hard to find. They were an obscure band on an obscure label, but I know they're on amazon. I'll surely have a pint for you. They also make one hell of a shepherds pie and amazing sweet potato fries
An unusual music hub -- I like very much that you provided a "listening center" as well as the videos. Voting this Up and Beautiful.
I love celtic music. The purity of the tones and the rhythmic flow is so spiritual to me. I have several Cds and some of my favorites that I would play in my store would be the Chieftains. They ROCK!
Voted up and across!...and shared!
Lisa
Great hub - very informative. I'd just like to mention my personal favourite - the Breton harpist/singer, Alan Stivell, especially his album - Renaissance of the Celtic harp.
Thanks for the article - voted up.
How have I not seen this before now?! I HAVE to send this to my mother - she's ALL crazy over our heritage (Irish). She will love this page :)
"Gaelic Storm - Black is the Colour" - SUPERAWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this stuff, thanks!
Beautiful images Tammy Bookmarking this for another read later.
You have created a great hub. I am sure it has taken several hours to research.
You are a writing machine. I can't keep up with your hubs and yet that is a weak excuse since I love your work. I happen to be a big fan of Celtic music and I'm sharing this right now before St. Patrick's Day is over. Great hub my friend!
Great hub.
I belong to a music group and we have a few people of Irish background. They introduced me to Irish/Celtic style music and I did like it. I'm somewhat fickle and mostly like classical music, but I enjoyed what I heard.
Voted interesting
John
This is a great reference hub! I enjoy Celtic music, and there are many new singers for me to explore on your list. Thank you very much for the listening center too. I will be visiting your hub several times to explore all it has to offer.
It is great to know you've compiled an extensive list of Celtic music. I'm not very familiar with the artists but I do enjoy listening to it. Thank you for putting this together : )
Many classics in there and I love the crossover with Americana. When you hear country and bluegrass you know where it all comes from. The Celtic Heritage crosses oceans.
Thanks for the Hub Tammy.
I remember the chieftains from when I was kid in London.
The Irish rebel songs were always on the record player.
I liked the way you laid out the different groupings of Celts, from Breton in the south to Scotland in the north and the Appalachian connections.
The Irish in the middle and don't forget the Welsh and Cornish or we will never hear the end of it lol.
Dolly Parton always says her music came from the Scots Irish of Appalachia.
I can hear it when I listen to her guitar pickers.
Great hub Tammy I learned something new and the images are stunning too.
Voted up interesting useful and beautiful. SHARING
Clannad are a great band.
The second video was very good.
Tammy....Just the other day my husband and I watched "Celtic Thunder" on PBS.....we were totally mesmorized...just glued to the set. Absolutely wonderful music. The songs by these fabulous Irish men were like heaven. I enjoyed this hub. Hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day. UP +++
Hi tammy! I love the Chieftains!! though I'm not sure if I've heard their Battle of Aughrim song..are most of the artists here on the more contemporary side? (because I don't know anyone else here besides Chieftains, Corrs Celtic Woman and Enya ) and I like more traditional-y sounding celtic music :)

Thanks for the list! I absolutely love celtic music and I have The Clannad's entire collection. I see they're missing from you list, but they are outstanding, in fact, Enya is/was their lead singer. She's fabulous and her voice is amazing singing native celtic songs.
Thanks again and voted up!
